my sweet nasty lunacy

an ode to the hysterical femme (2025)

my sweet nasty lunacy is a solo by Hélène Vrijdag: a live EP where her alter ego Woman Folly takes the mic. The concert is a collection of hyperpop bangers as an ode to the hysterical femme. In her arena with nothing but moving lights, concert conventions and the voices in her head, Woman Folly sings her soft setlist from sweet sweet hell.

tracklist:

1. intro (woman folly)
2. intrusive thoughts playground
3. (hihi) hysteria
4. uterus unhinged
5. pussy is an energy
6. crybaby
7. this next song

Woman Folly is a queer and feminist version of the character of Vrouwe Zotte in Erasmus’ book In Praise of Folly. Erasmus praises the female personification of madness while fueling his love for her with misogyny. Woman Folly became Hélène’s imaginary friend, a penpal she wrote daily letters to between 2019 and 2021. Those letters stayed unanswered, but they were bundled in a book called Vrouwe Zotte which is for sale after the show.

my sweet nasty lunacy voices a diva too angry to give a show. Woman Folly embodies ‘Woman’ as a phantasmic creature outside of gender binaries, and ‘Folly’ as a protest against normativity.

i wish i could kill predators but i'm too shy
i wanna castrate cat callers but didn't bring my knife
i wish i could spit on that tesla but i love to swallow
i wish i could set my entire body on fire
